Coastal Carolina Hospital Receives ACR Accreditation for Mammography Services
Monday, 23 August 2010
Coastal Carolina Hospital has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in mammography services as a result of a recent survey by the American College of Radiology (ACR).

Coastal Carolina Hospital provides digital mammography services for patients. Digital mammography is different from conventional mammography in how the image of the breast is acquired and, more importantly, viewed. It uses computers and specially designed digital detectors to produce an image that can be displayed on a high-resolution computer monitor. Images appear on the monitor in a matter of seconds.

“Our accreditation indicates that our services are up to par with national guidelines for mammography services, and demonstrates our commitment to quality patient care,” said Jennifer Patton, manager of the Imaging Department at Coastal Carolina Hospital.

The ACR, headquartered in Reston, Va., awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of the practice. Evaluations are conducted by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. They assess the qualifications of the personnel and the adequacy of facility equipment.
