Text Area 1:
Celia Witt Beauchamp Recognized for Establishing
Innovative Diabetes Education Programs

HARDEEVILLE, S.C. – March 2, 2012 – Coastal Carolina Hospital recently announced that Celia Witt Beauchamp, a clinical dietitian for the hospital, has been inducted into the Tenet Heroes Hall of Fame, Tenet Healthcare Corporation’s highest honor for employees, at a ceremony in Dallas, Texas, on January 31.

After realizing there was a lack of education about the diabetes epidemic in Jasper County, Beauchamp decided to take action. In 2009, Beauchamp pulled together a group of community health providers and organized the first Diabetes University for Jasper County. Each of the half-day programs featured physician speakers, nutritionists/dietitians, certified diabetes educators, exercise physiologists and others who shared helpful information with diabetics and caregivers to diabetics. In addition to this community program, Beauchamp organized a Diabetes Education Program at Coastal Carolina Hospital. This program for members of the community provides a four-week series of classes targeted at newly diagnosed diabetics. She is now spearheading a Diabetes Work Group at the hospital to make sure it is providing quality care, services and education to diabetic patients and their families.

“Our Tenet Hero inductees represent the best of who we are at Tenet and what we do as health care providers in the communities we serve,” said Trevor Fetter, Tenet’s president and chief executive officer. “The innovative ideas and exceptional service provided by professionals like Celia serve as an inspiration to us all.”

Beauchamp was one of seven employees inducted into the Tenet Heroes Hall of Fame. This year’s recipients were chosen from almost 100 nominations. Tenet Heroes are nominated by their hospital’s leadership team and selected based on their dedication to their patients, co-workers and communities. The Tenet Heroes Hall of Fame recognizes exceptional employees who demonstrate Tenet’s values of quality, integrity, service, innovation and transparency and represent the best of who we are and what we do.
